John Frederick Lewis was an English Orientalist painter who concentrated on Oriental scenes. He lived in Cairo and Istanbul and was interested in Islamic architecture, Oriental costumes, and furnishings. His father was an engraver and painter, and his uncle was the leading bookbinder Charles Lewis.
